PCA (Positive Coaching Alliance) - Garrett - Contact Northern California - Bob Heckmann - Background AYSO National Partnership, work with PA Little League Began at Stanford Athletic Department, 8 years old, non-profit - Approach Recommend 3-5 year commitment Work from the top down Life skills - how to interact with children (most coaches do not have extensive experience with soccer or coaching) Master the sport vs. scoreboard orientation Focus on the young children Reinforce through ROOTS guidelines, banners ("Honor the Game"), newsletters, e-mails Only work with referees at high-school level - Programs 1. Leadership Workshops To Board Goal - define culture and set expectations for season Timing - 2-2.5 months before kick-off 2. Task Force with Action Plan Goal - improvements at all levels Offer - coaching job descriptions, coach evaluations both mid-and post-season, parent pledges (currently send in packets) 3. Workshops Timing - all 2 hours long Coaches - prefer 100 per session, have done 175 (currently coaches attend safety workshops) Parents - 2-3 per team, then lead meeting for all team parents with coach - Cost $1,950 3 workshops - 200 AYSO discount ------ $1,750 Total Workbooks - $5 per attendee Account Management - 5 times during year including pre- and post-season - Discussion Action: Use for 1 year and see how it goes. 2. Openings Regional Coach Administrator Registrar Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate Uniforms? Lost and found 3. Field Subcommittee Meeting - Mayfield - giving up some time, expect a good return - Meetings in a week or so - Results Have 52% of fields Will be lottery process in coming years Will know by late July 4. Registration - Currently 1,800, about the same as this time last year; total last year was 1,906 - Fees $75 early, $100 late Those who cannot afford it pay what can without extra paperwork, some up to 75% off fee Should we have corporate sponsors like other regions to make up the difference? - Question: Push registration now or later when school starts? General or targeted to fill gaps? Division Commissioners are waiting to form teams but need to get an idea now to recruit coaches & assistant coaches, work with parent requests - Question: Combine Boys 11 & 12 Divisions? Now or later? Numbers will change later, anyway Playing up discouraged when parent requests unless child is evaluated as top- notch Playing down - have only gotten a few requests - Uniforms Only 10 colors? Need different sock colors or pennies? Action: Decided to combine Boys & Girls 11 & 12 Divisions Saul to check on uniform color options. 5. MLS (Major League Soccer) Camps - Week of August 14 at Addison, help get field & flyer 6. Coach Training - August 12 & 13, Ohlone - Will be in July next year - Redwood City’s is August 26 & 27 7. VIP Program - League for the physically and mentally challenges in Sunnyvale, very popular - Parents have discussed starting one in Palo Alto - Meeting next week - Begin a pilot program? Possibility of having 1 team - Question: Other teams/leagues in surrounding cities? Action: Saul will check with Sunnyvale about requirements - size, referees, etc. 8. EAYSO Site - Use along with Web Youth Soccer - EAYSO is for certificates, classes, insurance coverage, volunteer registration - EAYSO only accepts data dump for players from WYS - All volunteers have to register with EAYSO, then courses/certificates /etc. will link to names - Referees & coaches have to register so they are insured Question: Have DCs register them, or check to make sure they have done it themselves? Instruct them via flyer, &/or at meetings? Action: All Board members to register at www.eayso.com and give feedback 9. Referees - Only 2 referee openings - Revising handbook - Golden Gate Camp - registration at maximum - September referee instruction All 15-16 courses are scheduled and posted on the website Instructors & assistant instructors have been assigned Rooms reserved free at Cubberly No sign-up required (just show up) - Cubberly Discussion of who should be the contact person Requesting current Certificate of Liability Insurance - Intermediate Referee Course in October History - Area not Region task, but Region 26 is the largest Hosts are the usual underwriters and major attendees Proposal to continue coordinating this, have checked with Los Altos already Costs - room and lunch if course takes all day Action: Steve to check storage for instructional materials and order what is needed Steve to update Cubberly account. He will be the contact person. Steve to contact National for insurance certificate Steve will check with Area regarding October course 10. Boy’s Commissioner - DCs covered, 3 are new - Training will be at Saul’s house for Boys & Girls (3 new also), plus others who would benefit again - Volunteers for uniform distribution See how can make it work so DCs don’t have to pick it all up Possibly 1 location for Girls, 1 for Boys Do same for balls and cones? Action: TENTATIVE DC Training - Monday, July 17, 7:00-8:30 PM Action: Decided to combine Boys & Girls 11 & 12 Divisions (This means combine Boys 11 & 12, and also combine Girls 11 & 12.) 11. Coaches - Golden Gate Camp - out of beds - Classes Saturday, July 22 at St. Mary’s in Moraga Include Beginning Management, Registrar, Treasurer, etc. - Section Conference (Nor Cal, Oregon, Washington) in March in Reno Action: Board members to attend 7/22 classes if interested 12. Fields - Layout Labor Day weekend Action: Saul will send the volunteer list to Marco. 13. Girl’s Commissioner - DCs covered, 3 are new Action: Decided to combine Boys & Girls 11 & 12 Divisions 14. Website - DC lists - Cindy needs them, will not post them until teams are published - Forms Do not have a place to indicate who wants to work with whom (coach, assistant coach, youth coach) Currently have to send e-mail requests
