Many of you have asked what options exist to donate your soccer uniforms, cleats and shin guards. There are several organizations out there that are looking for soccer uniforms and equipment for groups in Mexico, Africa and India.
Have a wonderful holiday season.
Saul Rotblatt
Regional Commissioner
In Palo Alto, the girl scouts organize a drive for our sister city Oaxaca in Mexico and have drop off boxes in most of the Palo Alto schools until December 14th.
Every year the Palo Alto Girl Scouts place boxes in all of the Palo Alto school offices to collect soccer uniforms during the first two weeks in December (after the AYSO season is over). This year the collection boxes will be there from December 1 through 14. The uniforms (shirts, shorts and socks ONLY, no shin guards or shoes) are sent to our Sister City of Oaxaca, Mexico, for the Child-to-Child Health Program. The boxes can be recognized by large signs on them saying SOCCER UNIFORMS FOR OAXACA.
Another option is an organization that helps girls in Zimbabwe. Mary Rauner is our contact point. Her email address is mrauner @
Community Kids, a local service group, is gathering soccer items for "Goals for Girls", a program in Zimbabwe that combines the power of soccer with life skills lessons that will help its participants cope with the various challenges they face at home and in school.
The deadline for donations is Monday, December 21st.
We are accepting the following donations:
- soccer jerseys (sized for kids who are 8 years and older)
- soccer shorts (sized for kids who are 8 years and older)
- keeper jerseys
- keeper gloves
- coach shirts
- shin guards
- soccer balls
Please bring your donations to one of three drop off stations.
1) Nixon Elementary School, 1711 Stanford Avenue (in the office)
2) 3179 Stockton Place, Palo Alto 94303 (Midtown)
3) 680 Junipera Serra (near the Stanford Dish)
If you are unable to bring your donation to us, we will try to pick it up from you. Call 650-771-0083 to arrange a pick up or with any questions or concerns.
Another option is an organization that helps kids in Ethiopia. Our contact here is Derek Zhou and his email address is derekczhou @ if you would like more information.
My name is Derek Zhou, President of the United Nations Association at the local Cupertino High School. We are working with the nonprofit organization The World Family to collect and send educational/sports materials to the students of the village of Gara Dima, Ethiopia this winter.

Would any of your respective AYSO regions be interested in donating soccer balls or uniforms? Any donation of any quantity would be immensely appreciated and is tax deductible. I can be contacted via email or my cell phone: 408-504-3326.

We would like any donations to be received by December 18th, and we are more than happy to arrange pick-ups.
Another option helps out kids in India. Our contact for that is Ariadne Horstman and her email address is ariadne.horstman @
Parents could drop off the Uniforms/shoes/etc at my house in my courtyard (San Antonio Rd) and I will take anything. Contact Ariadne for details.
