Palo Alto Invitational

Palo Alto hosted an invitational tournament on a trial basis to determine participation interest level and learn a few lessons about hosting a tournament.  David Mucciarone, our Spring Select Producer and coach of the U14B1 team, Palo Alto Raptors, took on the task to organize and manage a U14B weekend tournament.  Many thanks to David for stepping up and trying this for our Palo Alto AYSO.

Great fun was had by all, and post tournament feedback has been really positive.

David wrote, "As much work as it was, it was worth all of the effort and my (team) parents were troopers and stepped up in many ways to help make this happen.  Lee (Berg) was instrumental in getting refs motivated to sign up on mysoccerleague.com after I posted the games.  We had 17 different refs handle our 10 games/30 slots.  We fed them lunch and refreshments, and I'd have to say the officiating was very good, including the final which was physical and well controlled by the ref."

We don't know if this will lead to greater aspirations yet, but stay tuned.  It seems David is fired up and with some additional volunteer help we could do this again next year, and extend it to more divisions as well.

Well done, David.  And thanks to the supporting volunteers to organize fields and referees, and of course, to the referees themselves.  And thanks to the visiting teams and their coaches for bringing some great soccer fun to our community.

-  Gordon Short, Regional Commissioner, Palo Alto AYSO, Region 26
