ANNUAL REFEREE REGISTRATION

Before you can be approved to officiate any games in 2009, you must (1) register as a referee for the 2009 season and (2) attend an AYSO referee course or clinic in 2009. This must be done every year to ensure that you are covered by AYSO's Group Accident Insurance during the current season, to make sure your current contact information is on file, to ensure that you have been informed of changes to the Laws of the Game and to local policies and procedures, and so you can be assigned games.

We apologize for the complexity of this processs. A major revision to eAYSO is in the works that may create a simpler process in 2010. Email (RRA) if you get stuck and would like some help completing your referee registration.

Note: The procedures below are for Palo Alto Region 26 volunteers. If you are not a Region 26 volunteer:
- contact your Region's RRA to learn how your Region's procedures may differ
- after registering in eAYSO, contact your Region's RRA or CVPA to obtain your AYSO Volunter ID
- you will mail your signed paper forms to your local Region (not the Palo Alto address given below)

Follow the steps for a new or a returning referee volunteer:

New referee volunteer (you have never attended an AYSO referee certification course or received any type of AYSO referee badge):
  1. Register in eAYSO (AYSO National's registration database) as a Volunteer. Registering in eAYSO establishes your insurance coverage and allows you to sign up for AYSO courses and to receive credit for the courses you complete by creating a permanent online record of the certifications you earn.
  2. Obtain Safe Haven certification. You do not have to do this again if your Safe Haven certification is documented in eAYSO.
  3. Attend an AYSO referee certification course. (Send an email to to let him know which class or clinic you will attend.) Upon completion, you will receive a badge and a uniform. You will not receive your badge until you have completed all of the above steps. You will not be approved to officiate games until you have received your AYSO badge, which must be worn when you officiate games.
  4. Obtain a username and password for WebYouthSoccer (WYS). If you registered a child online for this season or a previous season, you already have a WYS login. Do not create a new username, as this will create a problematic duplicate record in the database. See the instructions on the WYS main page if you do not remember your username or password.) If you do not already have a WYS username and password, contact our RRA to get them.
  5. Log into WYS and enter your Preferences under the Referee tab
  6. For U7, U8, U9, or U10 games:
  7. For U12, U14, U16, or U19 games:

Returning referee volunteer (you already have some type of AYSO referee certification and have refereed in a previous season):
  1. Re-register in eAYSO (AYSO National's registration database) as a Volunteer for the current season. (You must do this again every year.)
  2. If your Safe Haven certification is listed in eAYSO, skip to Step 3.
  3. Attend an AYSO referee refresher clinic or certification course. (Send an email to to let him know which class or clinic you will attend.) You will not be approved to officiate games in 2009 until you have attended a clinic or course this year.
  4. Log into WYS and enter your Preferences under the Referee tab (See the instructions on the WYS main page if you do not remember your username or password.)
  5. For U7, U8, U9, or U10 games:
  6. For U12, U14, U16, or U19 games:
