8U Official Course

If you are a new referee for 8 year olds and under, you MUST attend the 8U Official Course.
Fall 2017 classes are in AYSOU for signup. See instructions below to register for a course.

This course introduces new referees to AYSO soccer as it is played by 6 and 7 year olds in Palo Alto in our 8U division.

U6 and younger divisions do not use referees.
The 8U Official course is a single, three-hour class session and assumes no prior knowledge of soccer. To earn your 8U Official badge, you must attend this class and must be registered as an AYSO volunteer.

Before 2017, age brackets were defined differently, and the "8U Official" certification was called the "U8 Official" certification. "U8 Official" certifications are still valid for 8U play, and the existing "U8 Official" badges remain valid.

The class sessions for the 8U Official course will be held three times in fall, 2017 at Cubberley Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.
  • Thursday, 9/7, 6:30-9:30 PM, Rm A7
  • Sunday, 9/10, 1:30-4:30 PM, Rm A7
  • Thursday,  9/14, 6:30-9:30 PM, Rm A7
You need to attend only one of these sessions. Check back at this site a few days before your course for updates on rooms or other information.

Registering for a Course:

Find courses at AYSOU after you are registered as a volunteer and have your Blue Sombrero login. Log in to AYSOU, select the "Live Courses" menu item, select the "Sessions" button for the "8U Official"  [sic] Course, scroll down through the classes, which are listed by date, until you find the one you want, and select the "Register" button. (Note: As of 8/25/2017 there appears to be no way to use the supplied calendar or any search field to find courses, but the method described above is quick and effective.)

Receiving your badge: If you have completed AYSO volunteer registration and training, you will receive your badge at the end of the class. Otherwise, when all requirements have been completed, please send an email to rdri@ayso26.org and include your name, address, AYSO ID Number, and class title and date, and your badge will be mailed to you.
Follow these steps to complete the process and receive your badge in a timely manner.
  1. Everyone must register as a volunteer with AYSO every year. Register hereIn 2017, register as a new volunteer, even if you have registered before on eAYSO.org (we no longer use eAYSO.org for registration).
    • If you use the same full name that you used on eAYSO to register in the new system, then the system should pick up your old certifications and you won't lose things. But you still have to re-enter things you did in the past (e.g. references, etc.).
    • Once you start the registration process, make sure you always scroll to the bottom of the page to find the "continue" button.
    • Make sure you click on any box that is dark green on the page. There may be things you need to approve before going forward.
    • Make sure you "e-sign" the form at the conclusion. That's a step that some often miss.
  2. Register for your selected course at AYSOU as early as possible. The instructions are on the Referee Clinic Schedule page.
  3. Complete online "AYSO's Safe Haven" and "CDC: Concussion Course" at AYSOU (under the "My Courses" tab") before coming to the class. It takes a few hours total to get through these courses.
  4. Arrive at class five minutes early. The course is compressed for your convenience, but you must take all the modules to get credit for the course.
  5. Bring pencil and paper for note taking
  6. Bring a water bottle. We will have additional water and snacks available.
Referee uniforms and equipment will be distributed during the class.

Withdrawing from the Course
If you have signed up but will not be able to attend, please withdraw from the course using instructions at the bottom of the Referee Classes page.
