if you have any questions about the U12B Select Team.
Team Objective:
The objective of the U12B Spring Select Team is to have fun playing soccer at a
level of competition higher than the Fall season and to further develop
each player's individual skills and understanding of team tactics and strategy.
Eligibility:
Tryouts are open to all U12B boys who played in at least 50% of their Palo Alto AYSO Fall 2007 regular season games. Some U14B players may also be eligible e.g., if they were qualified U12B Fall players who are playing up. Players born 8/1/95-7/31/97.
Tryouts:
Players are strongly encouraged to attend 2 or more tryouts
If your son is interested in trying out for the team, please email
as soon as possible, indicating: (1) your sonÕs name,
(2) Team number (e.g., U12B-13), and (3) which tryout session(s) he plans to
attend.
Tryouts are scheduled for:
Saturday, November 3rd at Greer #2 from 2pm Ð 4pm.
Sunday, November 4th 21 at Greer #2 from . 2pm - 4pm.
Saturday, November 10th at Greer #2 from 2pm Ð 4 pm.
Player checklist for each tryout:
á To your first tryout, bring your completed player paperwork below and print out and bring a signed copy of your Fall registration form. The registration form can be obtained by logging into the AYSO web site and going to forms package under the parentÕs link.
á Wear your Fall season AYSO uniform (please plan to wear the same uniform shirt to all tryouts).
including shin guards, socks, and cleats
á Bring enough drinking water -- marked with your name
á Arrive at the field 30 minutes before the tryout start time (to get through the check-in line and begin warm-ups; the tryout will start promptly at the scheduled time)
Player Selection:
Players will be chosen for the team based on their play in the fall season and
their performance at the tryouts. Factors that will be considered include:
skill, speed, conditioning, effort, motivation, enthusiasm, understanding of
the game, practice habits, team work, sportsmanship, the team's positional
needs, and team chemistry. Other factors that play a role in selection are
availability for practices, family volunteer commitment, and availability to
participate in the Pacifica, Concord, and Davis tournaments in May. Players
selected to the team will be notified by email within a few days after the last
tryout session. While some players from the previous Select season may be
chosen for the team, participation on a Select team in a previous year is no
guarantee of selection this year.
It is expected that 14 to 15 players will be selected to the regular team and possibly a small alternate squad of 2 players will be selected. Members of the alternate squad will practice with the team and be eligible to join the team if there is a dropped or injured player.
Team Practices:
The team will have informal practices starting in January. Regular, twice a
week, 90-minute practices will begin in January and continue through May.
Practices are expected to take precedence over team members' other non-academic
activities. Except for brief periods and exceptional circumstances agreed
upon ahead of time with the head coach, a player must be able to attend both
weekly practices on a regular basis in order to be eligible for the
team. It is understood that schedule conflicts can occur during a season, these
are often worked out between the player and coach with minimal impact on the
team and the player.
Spring League and Tournaments:
All games are played in the 11v11 format. The team will play in the Pacific
Coast Spring Soccer League, one Sunday
game per week from early March through May. The team may stay overnight (Friday
and Saturday nights) in Concord during the Concord Cup tournament due to the early game start times on
Saturday and Sunday. The Davis World Cup tournament will require overnight stays over Memorial Day
weekend (Friday evening through Sunday or Monday).
Level of play:
The level of play in the Sping is equivalent to CYSA III, expect CYSA teams at the Concord tournament.
Playing Other Sports:
A player participating concurrently in another sport may be selected for the
team if there is agreement that the player will choose the U12B Select Team
activity (practice or game) if a scheduling conflict with the other sport
occurs.
Cost:
The cost per player, which includes uniforms and Spring League and tournament
registration fees, field maintenance fees, and Mayfield Park hourly use fee is
estimated to be about $250-$300. Additional expenses are transportation costs
and the cost of meals and accommodations at the tournaments.
Parent Volunteers:
Providing a parent volunteer is a factor in player selection. A parent from
each team member's family will be expected to perform some significant team
support activity during the season. The most important volunteer positions are
listed near the bottom of this page. Although each family will be asked to
perform only one volunteer function, when filling out the form below, please
indicate all the positions for which a parent would be prepared to
volunteer.
Playing CYSA:
Players are not allowed to play both CYSA and AYSO in the Spring. Your son will have to choose one.
