Please read the general information
at Palo Alto AYSO Spring Select Teams

The objective of the U14B Spring Select Team is to have fun playing soccer at a level of competition higher than the fall season and, more importantly, to further develop each player's individual skills and understanding of team tactics and strategy.
If your son will be participating
in the tryouts, please send an email to Terry Kelly, tmk9876@gmail.com, with your player's
name and the tryouts he plans to attend. This will help us prepare for the
number of players at the tryouts.
Players must bring
two
documents to the first tryout attended:
1. Please print out a copy of the pre-tryout form and
complete the bottom portion.
2. Login at the bottom of the Palo Alto AYSO home page, click on
"Form Package", print out and sign and date your player's Fall 2008 AYSO
Player Registration Form.
Sunday October 26, time: 3:00-5:00
at Terman #2
Sunday November 9, time 3:00-5:00
at Terman #2
Sunday November 16, time 1:15 to 3:15 at Terman #1
If we have a day rained out, we
may reschedule one more tryout.
Players should try to attend both tryouts.
Players attending tryouts should:
1. Arrive 5 minutes early
for the first tryout they attend. This allows us to get all the players checked
in and warmed up prior to the tryout beginning.
2. Bring your paperwork.
3. Wear your fall
AYSO uniform shirt
(please plan to wear the same uniform shirt to
all tryouts). WEAR SHINGUARDS AND
CLEATS.
4.
Please bring enough water for entire session. PLEASE LABEL YOUR WATER BOTTLE(S)
Players will be chosen based on
their play in the fall season and their performance at the tryouts. Factors
that
play a part in player selection include skill, speed, effort, understanding of the game, practice habits, the team's
positional needs, and team chemistry. Other factors that play a role in
selection are availability for practices, family volunteer commitment, and
availability to participate in both tournaments in May. Players selected for
the team will be notified a few days after the last tryout session. While some
players from the previous Select season may be chosen for the team,
participation on a Select team in a previous year is no guarantee of selection
this year.
Regular, twice a week, 90-minute practices will begin in early-February and continue through May. Practices are expected to take precedence over other non-academic activities. Except for brief periods and exceptional circumstances agreed upon ahead of time with the head coach, a player must be able to attend both weekly practices on a regular basis in order to be eligible for the team. Any expected or possible schedule conflicts you may have must be noted on the Player Declaration Form. Having a conflict does not disqualify you, but we need to know about any conflicts ahead of time.
We play in the Pacific Coast
Spring Soccer League, with one Sunday game per week from early March until
mid-May, with games typically scheduled from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. We
currently plan to play in two tournaments. The Concord Cup will be held May 16-17.
Some players stay overnight in Concord in order to more easily make early game
start times. The Davis World Cup tournament will be held over the Memorial
Day
weekend (May 22-25) and will require that we stay in Davis. These tournaments
feature top-flight competition in a fun, exciting environment. Most players
(and parents) remember the tournaments as major highlights of the Select
season. We are also looking at other tournaments as well, and may play in the
Pleasant Hill Soccer Fest and the Pacifica Fog tournament.
If a player participating
concurrently in another sport is selected for the team, it will be done with
the understanding and expectation that any scheduling conflicts will be decided
in favor of the U14B Select Team. Please make sure that, for both the player
and the parent, you are willing to make this commitment. If other obligations
prevent the player from fulfilling this commitment, at the discretion of the
coaches, the player may receive reduced playing time at games, may be
reassigned from a regular roster position into alternate status, or may be
dropped from the team.
The cost per player, which
includes uniforms and Spring League and tournament registrations, is expected
to be about $300, not including transportation costs and the cost of meals
and
accommodations at the tournaments.
Providing a parent volunteer (especially, a U14 certified referee) is an important factor in player selection. A parent from each player's family will be expected to help in some capacity during the season. The most important volunteer positions are listed near t= he bottom of the Player Declaration Form. Please indicate the positions for which a parent would be prepared to volunteer. (Please email me if you have a question on the positions). Unlike the fall season, the spring select season requires a great deal of involvement by all the parents on the team, particularly with team logistics, for the season to be successful.
