Welcome to the Palo Alto AYSO Kinder Program
Children are organized into teams and have formally appointed parent, trained coaches. The team trains together and plays other teams through the season. There are two tournament days, which is all games.
Parents are encouraged to be as involved as possible. Especially, we desire a parent of each child to act as an "assistant referee". This is a simple job, yet very important to the children, and we give orientation at the beginning of each session.
When the parents act as assistant referees they are sending a message and conditioning the players that the referee is in charge of games. This is not stated or taught to the players, rather, they are conditioned to it by practice.
The kinder assistant referee is at the touch line (side line) of the small kinder field, and watches who kicks the ball out, so that the other team can throw the ball back in. The only trick is that the assistant referee uses the referee flag to indicate the team, providing the conditioning the players need, which is to look at the referee to see what the call is.
Joining your child on the field creates a liability for Palo Alto AYSO and you. We provide insurance, included with the registration fees, for all registered volunteers. You need to register as a regional volunteer, if you are not already registered with an AYSO ID, and take our 30 minute Safe Haven webinar to finish qualifying. Sorry, but we can't let you on the field until this is completed.
To register as a regional volunteer only takes a few minutes. Go to http://eayso.org and click the button,
"I am new to AYSO and want to volunteer".
To complete your Safe Haven, wait for a notification email and it will give you a link and your AYSO ID to login and get Safe Haven certified.
Have a great season.
